Karen Fields Kehila Retreat

Beginning in 1979, Karen Fields was the leader of Kehila's retreat. Until her untimely death in 2007, Karen oversaw every detail of housing 100 plus people in appropriate cabins in a summer camp site every spring, feeding them, and enriching and entertaining them. It has taken a committee to replace her. The Karen Fields Memorial Retreat continues to be the annual opportunity to bring the community together in fellowship, study, and fun during a Shabbat weekend in West Virginia. Certain traditions have emerged over 30 years:

  • Shabbat services Friday night, Saturday morning, and Havdalah
  • Saturday late-night folk/pop music sing-alongs with Rabbi David
  • Jewga (Yoga with a Jewish flavor)
  • Adult education with a guest scholar
  • Food, food, and more food
  • Fishing, crafts, fossil pit explorations and other activities for children
  • Saturday afternoon soft ball games and hikes
  • The infamous talent show that has produced numerous original songs and memorable skits.
